Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has reportedly decided to take the holiday of his birthday to the extreme.
Trump’s father, John, has given away free birthday cards to nearly everyone he’s ever met since he started a company called Trump Card.
In a video posted to YouTube on Tuesday, Trump said he will be giving away $10,000 in free cards for every birthday in the US to anyone who signs up for a mailing list.
“The first birthday is the one where we give away $1,000, and the second birthday is $2,000,” Trump said.
“So that’s like a hundred cards.”
Trump, who is often pictured in his office, was reportedly inspired by his father and a friend’s experience giving out free birthday certificates in the 1960s.
“So the first thing I did is go to the bank and buy a bunch of free cards, so I could give out a thousand cards at a time,” Trump told The Washington Post in 2014.
“And that worked pretty well.
I guess I think I’ll keep doing it until the last card is out.”
On Wednesday, Trump released a statement on his website saying he would not be taking his father’s birthday to a “very far” and saying he was “pleased” that it would be “one of the first times in our country that a president of this country takes the day off.”
“The President and First Lady have enjoyed free birthday celebrations with their children for many years,” the statement said.
“Today, I am pleased to announce that the President and his family will be taking their birthday to one of the most beautiful places in the world to celebrate it.
I am so proud to celebrate my father’s day with the American people.”
The White House said the president and First Family had chosen the location for their “free” birthday because it was near Trump Tower, the White House residence and other properties.
Trump will reportedly take a flight to Paris to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, and will be accompanied by his family on a plane back to Washington.
